Chris Rea’s debut album released as remastered limited edition CD

Chris Rea's Whatever happened to Benny Santini? On November 18, 2014,  NYC boutique label Culture Factory released Chris Rea’s debut album Whatever Happened To Benny Santini? as a remastered limited edition CD. This digitally remastered edition comes housed in a mini LP jacket and paper sleeve that replicate every aspect of the original LP album release.

The album

The album, released in 1978, was Chris Rea’s biggest success in the United States. The single Fool (if you think it’s over) reached number twelve on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Adult Contemporary Singles chart. The album was produced by Gus Dudgeon, more famous as the producer for Elton John in the 70’s. Chris Rea was unhappy with the mix of the album, and also with the image he was given, as an “Elton John copy”. It took him years to shake off this image, and become seen as guitarist.
