Welcome to the Chris Rea fan site! I started a Chris Rea fan site around 20 years ago, in 1995, and that was probably the first one on the internet. After an absence of a few years, the site is back.
About Chris Rea
Christopher Anton Rea was born on March 4th 1951 in Middlesbrough, England. His father owned an ice cream factory in Middlesbrough together with his brother Gaetano, and they ran 21 cafés. Chris was of course working in the family business in his youth. He didn’t start playing guitar until he 22. He is left-handed, but has always played right-handed guitar.
In 1973 he joined a band called “Magdalene”, from where David Coverdale had just left to create Whitesnake. Soon after Chris formed the band “Beautiful Losers”, but he left it when he secured a solo recording deal in 1974. His first single was released the same your, entitled “So Much Love”. It took three more years until his first album, “Whatever Happened to Benny Santini?”, was released in June 1978. The single “Fool (If You Think It’s Over)” from the album was a big hit in the US, earning him a Grammy Award nomination, #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Adult Contemporary Singles chart. This was only a beginning of a fruitful career for Chris Rea. He has sold over 30 million albums worldwide, and he keeps on releasing new albums every few years (over 20 so far).
